Adding promotional discounts for bookings

This article contains instructions on how to create promotional discounts for bookings that can either be applied automatically for specified users, or can be applied when users specify a valid promo code during the make a booking process.

The promotional discounts are configured via the "Config" section of Spawtz:

This section is visible to any users with an elevated security role that has the "Can configure booking promotional discounts" permission.

Clicking on the link above will show a list of the currently live promotional discounts.  From there, you can add a new discount by clicking the "Add new discount" button:

Name

The name of the discount.  This is for your reference on the discounts list page.

Description

The description of the discount.  This will appear on the make a booking summary page when the discount is applicable to a particular booking.

Applicable at

You can choose to make a discount applicable only to certain venues and/or to certain booking types.  

Applies to

You can choose to make a discount applicable to specific users or teams, or to everyone.

Applies to bookings made within

If you enter values here, then only bookings made within the date range will get the discount.  For example, if you specify a date range of "01/01/2023" and "01/06/2023" in this field, the discount will only apply if the booking is made between the first of January and the first of June 2023.  Note that this applies to the date that the booking is made, not the date on which the booking occurs.

For bookings between

Similar to the above, this field allows you to make the discount apply only to bookings where the booking date is within a specific date range.  

Only applies if the following code is entered during the booking process

If this checkbox is checked, then users must enter the specified promo code during the make a booking process.  If this checkbox remains unchecked then if the conditions for the discount are met, it will be applied automatically.  For example, if you specify that the discount should apply to all bookings of type "Cricket" at the venue "Clapham" for bookings with a date between 25th December and 1st January, then all booking that match those criteria will automatically get the discount applied.

Code

If the checkbox above is checked, then this field should contain the text that the user should enter in the promo code box during the make a booking process in order to get the discount.

Discount Amount

You can choose to define that the discount amount will be a fixed amount, or a percentage of the total booking cost.

Once you have defined the parameters for your discount, click "Save" and the promotional discount will be saved.  

The Make a Booking journey

If you have defined any promotional discounts which require the user to enter a promo code in order to get the discount, a new section appears on the make a booking journey inviting users to enter a promo code:

Entering a valid promo code and clicking "Apply Promo Code" will cause the discount to be applied:

If you have configured any promotional discounts that apply automatically, without needing a promo code to be entered, these will be applied automatically at the summary step.
